Hunting
Bow Hunting in South Africa is fun. We have four main methods of hunting:
A Pit blind is a construction “sunken” into the ground. You stand on level with the animal. Placed strategically over waterholes, feeding spots or salt licks, this is a very exciting way of hunting. Observation windows allow a view of the surrounding area.
An elevated hide is a closed construction elevated about 4 meters above the ground, with a solid concrete floor to minimize noise. Observation windows allow a view of the surrounding areas. Also Placed strategically over waterholes, feeding spots or salt licks, this is a very exciting way of hunting.
Tree stands need no introduction. Placed strategically over game paths or salt licks, this is a very popular way of hunting with an undisturbed view of the magnificent surroundings. We use Gorrilla tree stands. Every hunter that wants to hunt out of a tree stand most bring his OWN hunter safety gear.
Needs no introduction also and used for various types of hunting over well used game paths, bait stations or salt.
- Walk and Stalk (also known in the U.S. as still hunting)
Join our pro Ryno, the master of walk and stalk when he guides you to one of the most rewarding of bow hunting experiences! Be prepared to work hard, crawl a lot, and get use to disappointment, all of this building up to that magical moment when you draw, take the bead, exhale and make the perfect shot.
Additional info about hunting from blinds.
Game shot from inside a hide is easily followed up because the hunter has a point of reference from where to start tracking. Hides enable an Professional hunter to have three or four hunters on the concession simultaneously at different locations. They can remain in contact with the Professional Hunter via two-way radio, and as soon as an animal is shot the Professional Hunter, tracker and tracking dog can immediately drive to the hide to recover the game and follow it up. Hunter must stay in hide until collected.
All shots out of stationary ambush spots, like hides and tree stands will be 30 yards or closer.
Walk and stalk can be up to 50 yard shots.
