Infinito Safaris News Flash.

Well its the end of a very busy year and we still have one more hunt for 2009. We would like to wish all our clients and everyone else who knows Infinito Safaris the very best Christmas season and may the new year bring new adventures and fortune so that you once more enjoy an unforgetable safari with us.

May the best of 2009 only be the worst of 2010.

New Hunting Area:

It seems as if we get a new hunting area every month now! New this month is the great concession of Grootfontein (12,000 acres) near Gravelotte, 60 km’s from the famous Kruger National Park. Sad thing with all these new areas is that we need more hunters to make them work, so come on people, lets support our industry!

Mozambique

Charl spend 10 days in Mozambique in November with some our clients from South Africa. As it goes with fishing, we struggled a lot with the weather for a couple of days. Fishing was good when we got out there, with some good King Mackerel (King Fish for you folks from the States), Giant Trevallies, Barracuda, and Queen mackerel keeping the boys bussy. No Billfish this time around, which we found interesting. Just to be fishing in this tropical paradise was something special!

Look out for an open invite to fish with Captain Charl for 7 days in Mozambique in April/May 2010. We will be offering a very special deal for two people to go and explore a new area at Chedunguela in Mozambique! This trip must not be missed out if you want a new fishing experience. As this will be a “recce trip”, we will offer this adventure to two anglers at a next to nothing price, to just help cover the cost of the trip, and of course to give some exposure to this wonderful destination.

Hunting

Infinito, through our association with Mozambique Unlimited Safaris Inc., will be able to offer in 2010 some of the best Elephant hunting opportunities left in Africa. A true chance to shoot that magical 100’lber will be on the table for the hunter. Also on offer here are good Leopard, Lion, Buffalo and LOTS LOTS LOTS of Sable. Contact us for details.

Hunt Report

Bernard Robinson from the UK and on his 7th hunting safari with Infinito Safaris came in the begining of November as we headed up north close to the border of Zimbabwe. Bernard experienced the heat and ancient Baobab trees and had a wonderfull time bagging a super waterbuck, old duiker ram, 2 warthogs and a impala.

Bernard used his 416 Hoffman on this trip to prepare himself for his upcoming buffalo hunt with us in March 2010. I declared Bernard ready for the buffalo after this hunt. You will surely read about Bernard's hunt report next year I cannot wait.

Adrian Powdrill from Wales and his lovely partner Sue visited us at the end of the month. We had great fun. Adrian won a competition we sponsored with The Hunting Agency in the UK, in March of 2009.

Adrian used Frederik’s .303 British with Impala bullets and shot a very nice Impala ram and Warthog, as per the price he won. They also opted for a day trip to the Kruger Park, and I took them trout fishing for a day. Adrian caught the first trout of the day, adding to the bag that gave us a splendid breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed ourselves at the gorgeous Caleverton Lodge for the day.

Sue kept a journal of their whole holiday, and we hope to get a copy of the published version to circulate to interested parties. The rough piece was an excellent read, and for you folks that think a holiday with us is only about killing animals, think again, this journal is a must read for y’all!

LATEST NEWS

We had lots of good rain in all our hunting areas. The bush and animals are responding well to this good, early rain. Sounds as if the hunting public from all over the globe are slowly recovering from the recession as inquiries for 2010 start flooding in. The animals that generates the most interest for 2010 so far are Kudu (again), Buffalo Cow hunts and Bushpigs with the bow.

Charl was voted onto the LEDET board of Professional Hunters on the 20’th November 2009. The purpose of this board is to liase between PH’s  and LEDET (the Limpopo Provincial Government Nature conservation and tourism agency)

SUCCESS STORIES

As many of you will know, Charl is absolutely besotted with hunting Bushpigs. This month was no exception. Herewith his story:

I have baited this particular blind for 3 months now, and the pigs are feeding well. The bait is situated in a donga (ditch) with a swamp that formed in its bottom. A small clearing was made and we baited with a mixture of corn and wheat. The blind is situated on the bank about 16 yards from the bait and about 3 meters above it.

I shot a nice pig here in September, and they are back again. I got in the blind at about 18:30, and settled in. The night became alive at about 19:00 with crickets and fireflies. The mozzies were out in abundance as well, but I’m “suited” up with them, and they cannot get through the netted face mask. I heard the splash of water at about 19:30 to announce the arrival of the piggies. Another 10 min. and I could here something feeding. I slowly picked up the night sight and picked up a Porcupine feeding on my bait! “Bastard”, I thought, “you will not get away with this”. I slowly picked up the bow and switched on the red light. I shot the porcupine quatering towards, and it ran away.

I settled down again, and notched another arrow in the bow. After waiting about 2 hours, I heard the splashing of water again, and this time the soft grunting of the pigs making their way to the blind. I gave them about 15 minutes to settle in and eat. When I looked through the night sight, I counted 6 young pigs, all about 2-3 years old. No big one. I waited another 15 minutes to see if the big Boar will not maybe put in an appearance, but he did not come. I have been trying to shoot this bore now for the last year without success, he is just SO clever. We’ll, if it is not a trophy boar, some bacon for the camp will do hey?!

Again the red light came on, and I picked out a young sow that was VERY nicely quartering away. I slowly drew the bow, and exhaled. The pig did not squeal when I released the arrow, but man, did she take off. I waited 30 min, and called Solly over the radio, to help me with the follow up. We got her about 60 yards away, stone dead. The arrow penetrated the whole length of her body, exiting in front of the off side shoulder, in the neck. I was elated. Any Bushpig is a good Bushpig!

Another succes storie for this issue is Adrian Powdrill's impala ram. As mentioned before Adrian won a hunting trip with us trough the Hunting Agency while Frederik was marketing in the UK of March 2009. Adrian borrowed Frederik's .303 British loaded with impala bullets, we have to mention that Adrian struggles with his eyesight. Federik spotted some impala in the bush and the chase was on the wind was right and the bush very thick. Following the tracks of the impala herd they could sometimes see impala moving in the thick bush infront of them. But with the bush being so thick and green no shooting opportunity presented itself.

Without having a chance to take an good impala ram while seeing them they kept on going being spotted by giraffe who thundered off into the bush and giving the impala a scare, as they ran off as well. Frederik kept on the tracks and saw that the giraffe changed direction while the impala kept direction. The wind was good and after busting some sleeping warthogs Frederik decided to rather keep on the tracks than try for a warthog and after another 100 meters of stalking spotted the impalas browsing and grazing. As luck would have it a good impala ram was standing behind a bush with just his head and neck sticking out. Frederik setup the shooting sticks and Adrian was guided to aim onto the correct impala as there was a couple of them standing around. After a short wait the ram decided to move a step forward and Frederik gave Adrian the go ahead after confirming the correct target. At the shot the ram dropped on the spot while the rest of the herd ran away not knowing what has happened. The other impalas never saw them.

Frederik said that it was one of the best stalks of the year having being spotted by giraffe first letting the impala run off then busting some sleeping warthog and ignoring them to keep after the impala and finally bagging the impala ram and Adrian followed trough the thick bush and getting scratched by the thorns and twigs to end the affair with a perfect shot.

Well done Adrian we are very proud of you.

Frederik congratulating a very proud Adrian Powdrill.
